TopDesk seems to be the best Exposé clone for Windows. But it does not copy the Flip 3D feature of Windows Vista very well. Flipping through the windows using the mouse scroll wheel in TopDesk’s Flip implementation ist by far too “laggy”. Also in Vista you can click on any Window in the stack to bring it to the front while TopDesk always brings the top window of the stack to the front.

Btw, it would be very nice if TopDesk 1.4.3 would make mouse buttons available as hot keys; a quite simple but very effective feature.

  2. Please bear in mind we’re replicating a feature that isn’t even out yet, and that TopDesk 1.4.1 was basically the 1.0 release for the flip feature. There’s a lot of tweaks still to come :) . I’ll take on board your two suggestions (a lot of people have already requested similar features), although the “lag” you’re seeing may/may not also be due in part to your hardware.

TopDesk v1.2 actually had mouse button hot keys, but the feature was removed in v1.3 because anti-spyware apps “watch” the system hooks that are used to support mouse buttons, which causes a major lag between the mouse button being pressed and the tiling actually happening. Mouse buttons won’t be put until a workaround is found for this.

I have a suggestion for TopDesk. Assign a key to each window when exposed in spatial or grid mode. That way, when one presses, e.g., 3, the window assigned that key gets selected. That makes it a lot easier to use TopDesk from the keyboard only.

  4. Hi Nikolai, the feature has already been suggested on the forums and will be implemented in a future version.

The only thing I’d like is per-pixel support. I have WB5.
